If it is my second hypothesis which is good, it is logical that the SQL Server services are not running and that the install does not ask the authentification mode used for the connection. Maybe beautiful but ununderstandable, exactly what must be avoided for a beginner with SQL Server ( most of the people downloading SQL Server Express are beginners, i have no reproach for them, but a link like this one is exactly what Microsoft mustĪvoid : unclear and with possibility of errors for the users. It would be clever to return to the old presentation of the downloads for SQL Server Express 2005 : clear and complete.
